Schools often to choose to order blank lanyards rather than printed or designed ones. This is done for a number of different reasons.

One of these reasons is the fact that by ordering blank lanyards the school can take advantage of wholesale prices. This means that producers reduce the price of a single cord in relation to the number of cords being purchased. The cost of shipping and handling may even be covered by the shipper for large orders.

Blank lanyards can be reused. Rather than designing the lanyard with a particular date or event printed onto them, a blank cord can be used at any time. This means that lanyards which are used for prom night can also be used by the school basketball team at an away tournament.

Numerous schools choose to order blank lanyards of varying colors. Color coded systems can be implemented in many ways. One way that a school can use colored lanyards is to indicate the grade of the child. For instance a repair person would be given a blue cord and a parent would be offered a pink one. Every person would also be required to return to the office and give back the lanyard.

This same principal can be utilized by any large corporation which wants to denote the various designations of people in their employ. This type of identification is also beneficial in a facility which houses more than one company.

Blank lanyards can be made using any attachment which the buyer desires. Additionally, extra attachments and special features can be included on these cords. The snap buckle is a feature which many companies choose to have on their cords because it permits the wearer to separate the lower part of the lanyard. The breakaway safety feature is one that is frequently chosen by schools because the chances of sustaining neck or throat injury is greatly reduced. It does this by automatically opening when the cord is placed under any kind of stress. This pressure can be caused either deliberately or accidentally.

Another option which can be added is one which will shorten the length of the cord. This can be done by either adding a cinch or a slide bead. The cinch is a simple piece which clamps onto the cord and is normally worn at the back. The slide bead also clamps onto the cord. However, as the name implies it can move up and down the cord. This allows the wearer to lengthen or shorten the cord at any given time.
