Full color lanyard is a term which buyers often see when they go online. However, most buyers do not interpret this phrase correctly. This is actually a technical term which refers to the way a lanyard is dyed. Dying is one of many factors which need to be examined before a buyer makes a final choice.

The term full color is often referred to as dye sublimation. Dye sublimation is a process where a solid dye is converted into gas without going through the liquid stage. The solid dye is actually converted into a gas by means of extreme heat. The heat must be applied very quickly for this exchange to occur.

This process is the best one for creating a lanyard which will involve numerous colors and detailed imagery. The reason for this is the fact that a manufacturer has far more control over dye in a gas state. When the dye is a gas the producer is better able to regulate the amount of dye being used and its position on the cord.

The more traditional method of silk screening involves using a liquid dye. This process is ideal for creating simple lanyards that do not have a lot of detail and do not include a wide variety of colors. Liquid dyes can run or "bleed". Both of these things can create a fuzzy or hazy image. Another problem with this technique is that colors are restricted to those which are placed in the machine. Detailed images which are produced using this technique often do not have a blended or continuous tonal quality. In some cases the images actually appear pixelated. If you are unfamiliar with this term compare to the images produced by older printers.

If you are planning to get a lanyard created using this method you may all so want to be able to use your own graphics. Some suppliers can easily accommodate this request. However, it is important to ascertain before placing the order, if the company will be able to use your images or will they need to modify them before they are printed onto the cord. If any modifications or alterations are going to be required it is essential that the producer have their own art team which will be capable of doing this. Additionally, any corporation that has to make this request should be permitted to see a preview of the final product prior to purchase.

There is one other method of creating a lanyard which does not require any kind of dye. This method is called "the woven" technique. This cord is created by actually sewing or embroidering the lettering on. Although, this technique can create a very beautiful lanyard, it is not one that can be used with detailed imagery or colors. If your design is only going to use two colors, this will make an ideal cord.

Full color lanyards (dye sublimation), Silk screening, or woven the choice remains up to the purchaser. Each technique has its own merits and should be given careful consideration.
